everesting - the beginnings.

Where to start?

I knew about everesting from bikes, back when it first appeared with the Hells 500 crew. It seemed a doable challenge on a bike… one day.

Then bikes gave way to running and everesting gave way with it. However, much like bikes, I’ve gravitated towards the non-race challenges with the running. Skyrunning is fascinating, but realistically, I’m never gonna win any races. VK is the same. But other goals came along; completing the Heysen Trail (and a few others - Lavendar-Federation, Walk the Yorke, KIWT etc.) for example; hence my #iconictrailsproject stuff.

With long distance trails, FKTs were thought about, but generally the time and opportunity to do this is limited; hundreds of kilometres take hours of time to do - and even more training hours!

Next along was the fell running rounds of the UK. Bob Graham, Ramsay round… the focus was on the goal, not the time or pace. Thoughts of trying to create some such round were toyed with but unrealistic - simply not enough interesting or challenging peaks close to Adelaide, to realistically make a similar type of thing. Plus, one person doing it, does not a round make.

Then, everesting re-emerged as an idea. And now, a few others had put up times and done it - on foot. A run hall of fame had emerged on the website. So… why not have a go? At best, I succeed. At worst, I have a go and a story to tell. Or something to come back to again, later.
