#backyardadventures: PWT Double

So after 5 Peaks, although I didn't have the result on the day, I kinda felt I did have the legs to do a bit more. When asked, I even heard myself saying something along these lines to folks, when normally I downplay stuff of that nature.

And with Easter coming, and Uni 'on break', there were a few opportunities for a lil backyard adventure. One of those that I have had on my list has been a double of the Pioneer Womens Trail. I've posted about it before, but it has always seemed a bit more of a both ways thing to me; we get all excited about following the route of these strong pioneer women who carried loads to town and then returned to the Hills, yet we take our lightweight gear and only go in one direction!

With no kids to worry about, not work, no uni, nor either workplace open for Good Friday, I decided to do it. Others weren't around to join in, which in some ways made it even better - absolutely no timeframe of my own or anyone elses to worry about. The only thing I needed to consider was that I need to talk to Beck at BKT trail which happens to be, essentially, at the city end of the trail anyway.

And so, I parked at Crafers with resupply of water in the car, in the morning and headed towards Verdun, with the promise of coffee at Walk The Talk cafe, with plans to then head back to Crafers, refuel, head down to BKT for a chat, and then retrace my steps back to the car and home. A simple plan, for a simple day.

Yesterday's wander along the Pioneer Womens' Trail. Coffee @walk_the_talk_cafe at one end, then back down the hill for chats with Beck @bkttrail at the other. Start finish at Crafers allowed for end of day bevvies @thecrafershotel. Not bad! 😁

And so it finished up as just about 50km for the day - my second ultra distance run in about 10 days. Whilst it got tough towards the end - not helped by my lack of food and lack of headtorch in the dark! - my legs did indeed hold up enough to get me back to the pub for a sneaky Sierra Nevada Pale before home time; I was correct to think that I was in good enough condition to have a crack at this and the first of a few more backyard adventures for the year was given a tick.
